GEOMETRIC SERIES and RETREATS

I just noticed that the numbers of comments on my first three posts are (right now) a decreasing geometric sequence: 8, 4, 2. The real problem with a decreasing geometric sequence is that it tends to zero.... I guess the success of my 'blog was short-lived!

Wendy and I are eagerly anticipating going to Vermontville Camp this afternoon for a Northern Zone weekend retreat. In some contexts, a "retreat" is a bad thing; we don't like it when our troops are forced to retreat. However, in this context, it should be a very good thing. I'll reflect on it when we come back tomorrow afternoon, and perhaps share some pictures as well.

Weekends, in general, are great anyway. Retreat weekends add a new level to that greatness.

Hello - I'm looking forward to the "retreat", too! In fact, I have my goodies all made - baked beans, and brownies to augment lunch tomorrow, plus soda (AND, makings for S'mores!!) :-)
In doing your math thing, did you take into account that 1 of the 2 responses was your own response to my comment...guess that sounds even worse. Sorry!! I hope your blog will gain momentum! I check it often.... Love to both

Oops! In doing your "geometric series..." I should have said :-).

It is a shame to see such an excellent mathematical pattern destroyed, but it was done before I added my post, so I guess I'm in the clear. Next time let's shoot for something wilder - maybe a Fibonacci series!

I LOVE to mess up patterns, so here goes my comment to make it up to 5!! And yes, I'd love to see one of those "Fibonacci" thingies, especially since I don't have a clue what it is!!!

Wish I could have gone to the retreat, the "HOME" was nothing like a retreat last night, more like a nightmare! I think I want to be a Librarian when I grow up, how much trouble can it be to watch the BOOKS???

Love ya, hope you had fun "retreating"!

Whew! I thought I was the only one that didn't know what to look for if we ever have a Fibonacci series, Esther... I wasn't about to confess to it until you did! :-)

The Fibonacci series (named after Fibonacci, or Leonardo of Pisa, a 12th century mathematician), came about as the result of a problem written about the reproduction of rabbits. The pattern is simple, beginning with 1 and 1, and then each subsequent number is the sum of the previous two. Thus, 1, 1, 2, 3, 5, 8, 13, etc. Now you know!! If my number of 'blog comments began to follow THIS pattern, then I would have a very successful 'blog in a short amount of time!

Thanks, Don :-) Enlightening - hope I can remember it!! Have a good day. Sure did enjoy the retreat - thanks for making all those good omelets. Got to get to my SS lesson... Love to both

Wow! Where have I been? I have seriously underestimated your blogging interest. I popped in and woah... I missed 2 posts! Well, as I read down through your comments... I was all ready to share my knowledge of Fibonacci series... but you did a fine job. :)

Sorry to hear about your car. It makes me think of when someone ran a red light while I was driving. Our insurance company or actually the other driver's insurance gave us a really good deal on a White 98 Olds. :-P

I am so out of the loop! I'm always running way behind everyone else! I guess I'm tooooooo occupied with third grade right now. Anyhow, I didn't even have to ask about Fibanocci or whoever he is!! On advantage of being behind everyone else, I don't have to ask questions. I just wait for everyone else to ask the questions, then I read the answers!
Glad to hear about your car, hope your tooth feels fine, I enjoyed the little retreat I attended and, guess that's all!! Love you!!
